Over half of all the deaths of children under the age of 5 are preventable through simple medical care and affordable treatments. Local health systems can be strengthened with the help of international volunteers to save thousands of more lives each year among both young people and adults with just basic medical interventions.
Those who live in rural parts of sub-Saharan Africa are our largest patient group and have an even greater need due to difficulties accessing medical care. We ask our volunteers to travel to these regions and work with our local partners to set up remote clinics so that they can receive the care they desperately need. Patients in rural areas who require surgery are eligible for assistance from our surgical team.
Donate Now(PHS offers free medical services, surgery, and medical supplies to rural and underserved communities, including those who are elderly, children, chronically ill, poor, and those who are at the highest risk of disease. Each clinic that we launch starts off with an introduction and meeting between our team and local community leaders, with logistics being planned ahead of time to ensure smooth operation.
Procedure locations will vary depending on the facilities of the community, and clinics may be set up in hospitals, existing clinics, or temporary posts in urban areas or villages. We work with local leaders in order to figure out the best approach for each circumstance and to ensure that those who are in the greatest need receive adequate care.)
Every day, 16,000 children die before their 5th birthday, mostly from preventable causes.
1 in 6 children worldwide isn’t in school, missing out on critical learning.
Conflict is forcing 1 in 80 children to flee, risking everything just to survive.
In order to ensure the long-term success of the regions we serve, we also aim to implement ongoing educational programs and services for community members. Our clinics offer medical education to our volunteers, locals, students and professionals, and each of our programs is tailored to the individual skills and needs of the people we serve. By empowering each local community with education, we allow them to become more independent and self-reliant. Our training programs include both classroom-based learning as well as hands-on training so that it is comprehensive.
When you give to Petronille Healthy Society, you’re investing in a future of children in Sub Sahran Africa.
Here’s how it works: Over 90% of every dollar you give goes straight to our mission – helping children grow up healthy, learning and safe. This percentage is adjusted each year end – as of 2018, it is 92%. The rest? We use to support the mission – running our programs and raising funds to help more children.
Bottom line: Your donation to the Petronille Healthy Society is one of the world’s best investments. Changing children’s lives now in Africa. Improving the future we all share.
We work to improve communities throughout sub-Saharan Africa by improving the overall health of locals, providing them with critical primary and specialist care, surgical care, treatment, medications, and diagnoses. Our organization works with local medical providers and educators to provide classes on preventative medicine along with recruiting and training students. In spite of recent improvements in healthcare, there is significant room for improvement, and the statistics remain alarming. Approximately one out of every six children born in sub-Saharan Africa today will die before reaching the age of 5. African women also have a 100-fold greater material mortality risk compared to women in the first world. We strive to change these statistics and bring the best healthcare possible to millions of people in the region who have been forgotten and excluded.
